Sunday’s Intro Clinic was big success as over 70 players from South Jersey traveled to St. Augustine Prep in Richland, NJ to experience what SouthShore Girls LC is all about! The clinic was fun and educational 120 minutes of lacrosse that generated much anticipation and excitement for the upcoming program tryouts scheduled for September 12th and 13th.
Director Jen Valore and her experienced and knowledgeable coaching staff embraced the SouthShore Lacrosse philosophy of passion, experience and attention to detail by infusing leadership principles into every aspect of skill development, providing players with a glimpse of what they can expect from future SouthShore Lacrosse practices and training sessions. Committed to total player development, the coaches delivered a curriculum focused on multiple facets of individual growth, including the critical area of agility training and strength & conditioning.
Players started off their clinic experience going through a dynamic warm-up with Coach Kaufman specifically designed for youth to get their bodies ready for lacrosse training. After a comprehensive stick warm-up covering the basic fundamentals of throwing and catching, players went through a series of four skill stations as well as a fifth agility station led by Coach Kaufman. Goalies had the opportunity to receive position specific training and skill development and worked with our clinic's dedicated goalie instructor Coach Gigantiello.
Station work focused on four key fundamental areas and was developed and executed according to each group’s age and general skill level, allowing for players to get the most out of every session. Coach Johnson covered the valuable skill of dodging, Coach Weiss helped players perfect their shooting mechanics, Coach Ingersoll & Coach Kramer put the fundamentals of defense to the test with a series of footwork related defensive drills, and Coach Valore & Coach Kubach taught the importance of mechanics in ground ball pick-ups.
To round out the clinic Coach Valore led a Q & A session providing insight into her leadership-driven vision for the program and discussing what players can expect in year one of the SouthShore Girls LC.
The clinic would not have been the success that it was without the hard work and passion of our talented coaching staff who provided a fantastic experience for everyone involved. Special appreciation goes out to our on-site athletic trainer, Mr. John Ross, for keeping the players safe, and our all-star photographer, Kate McLoughlin, for capturing and documenting all of the day's excitement!
We would also like to sincerely thank all of the players and families who came out Sunday and helped make our SouthShore Girls Intro Clinic an exceptional one. We can't wait to pick up where we left off at tryouts in a few weeks!
